I was delighted to be invited to contribute to the Digging into Waterford Podcast Series this summer.
The blurb stated that “As part of Visit Waterford’s 2025 campaign, Dig Into Waterford, the project launched the Digging Into Waterford podcast. The series hosted by Clare O’Sullivan brought together experts in history, archaeology, folklore, and more, with the aim of uncovering and promoting Waterford’s rich history, culture, and heritage.”
I was assigned to cover the maritime element. I wouldn’t consider myself an expert of course, but hopefully my passion and interest in the topic comes through.
In Episode 3 of Digging Into Waterford, we set sail into the rich maritime history of Ireland’s oldest city. Join host Clare O’Sullivan as she chats with historian Andrew Doherty about shipwrecks, seafarers, and the untold stories of Waterford’s bustling port past.
️ From Viking voyages to the age of sail, this episode dives deep into the waves of history that shaped Waterford’s identity you can listen to the new episode here. You can also check out other episodes on the site whuch include a regular guest blogger Cian Manning talking about sport and Neil Jackman on our ritual landscape and viking legacy specifically the Anne Valley and the Woodstown site
